Frequently asked questions
Service‑specific
Do I need a GP referral to start therapy?
No. You can book without a referral. To claim a Medicare rebate, ask your GP for a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and have it addressed to Calladoc or your chosen clinician.
Is telehealth therapy effective?
Yes. For many presentations (e.g., anxiety, depression, stress), telehealth outcomes are comparable to in‑person care when evidence‑based therapies are used and technology is reliable.
How long is a session and how many will I need?
Standard sessions are 40 minutes. Frequency and number vary by goals and progress—many people start weekly/fortnightly and review after 4–6 sessions.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Your information is handled in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Australian Privacy Principles. We only share information with your consent, or where required by law to keep you or others safe.
Can I use private health insurance?
Often, yes—check your fund’s extras cover for psychology. You can’t claim both Medicare and private health for the same session. With private health you will pay the full price upfront and claim the rebate lateron. You will be provided with an invoice.
What if I need urgent help?
Call 000 for emergencies. 24/7 supports: Lifeline 13 11 14, Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659 467, Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636, Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800, 1800RESPECT 1800 737 732.
General CALL@Doc FAQs
What counts as after‑hours and how is the +25% applied?
After‑hours includes weekday evenings (6:00 PM–8:00 AM), weekends, and NSW public holidays. A 25% uplift is applied to standard fees during these times. See: After‑hours fee details.
Are Medicare rebates available for telehealth?
Eligibility depends on your circumstances and current Medicare rules. Where applicable, we’ll advise during your consult if a rebate may apply and what evidence is required.
Do I need ID or medical history to book?
Yes. To maintain safety and regulatory compliance, we may require photo ID and relevant medical history. You’ll be guided through secure submission during booking.
How fast will I receive my eScript or certificate?
Most eScripts and certificates are issued shortly after your consult if clinically appropriate—often the same day. You’ll receive them digitally via SMS/email.
Can you prescribe Schedule 8 or restricted medications?
Some medicines (e.g., Schedule 8) have stricter rules or may need an in‑person assessment. Your clinician will advise if telehealth is appropriate; otherwise you’ll be referred accordingly. Learn more: Prescriptions.
